The lighthouse keeper never leaves the tower to swim out and save the ship. That’s not his role. His job is to keep the light burning, no matter how fierce the storm becomes.
Too often we abandon our post, thinking we’re helping. We exhaust ourselves trying to do someone else’s inner work. We pour from a cup already cracked. We jump into waters we were never meant to swim, all in the name of love, loyalty, or guilt. But when you leave your tower, the light goes out. And without your light, people can’t find their way home.
Let that sink in.
Your light is your gift. Your purpose. Your assignment. You were never meant to do it all. You were never meant to save them. You were meant to stay anchored and shine. Yes, people will struggle. Yes, it’s hard to watch someone drift. But their journey is theirs. Plenty of people I love watched helplessly as I struggled for air, barely treading water. Those lessons are sacred to me, and I had to learn them on my own. And I’m so thankful for lightkeepers that held their post so I could find my way home.
That means setting boundaries, saying no when it’s not your weight to carry.
That means allowing people to swim through their own waves while you stand tall and shine. Because at the end of the day, if everyone tries to be the lifeboat, who’s left to be the lighthouse? So, this is your reminder, Stay in your light. Guard your peace. Honor your purpose.
You can’t do someone else’s job. And you don’t need to. Your role is powerful all on its own.
Hold the light in the dark.
